Question: It would be good to get some assistance in identifying those questions in the survey that are more important to employees, so we can focus our efforts on things that will impact on peoples’ overall engagement/satisfaction/commitment.

It’s definitely true that some questions in our survey are more important than others. There are 3 things we can do to help you identify which issues your survey has raised are most worthy of your attention:

  1. Download the presentation made by Dr Neal Knight-Turvey, our Senior Research & Analysis Consultant at our Best Places to Work Seminar. Neal conducts Key Driver Analysis on our entire ‘Best Places to Work’ database each year, to identify which questions in the survey are of greatest importance to employees in the ‘average’ New Zealand organisation. While the research is not specific to your organisation, it can be helpful to keep in mind which questions tend to be the most important to the ‘average’ New Zealand employee. To read more about how Key Driver Analysis works, click here.
  2. Call JRA to discuss your survey results – ph (09) 378 2003. We will discuss with you the key driver questions mentioned above, and also cast an experienced eye over your results.
  3. To be sure that you are going to spend money in the right areas, we can do Key Driver Analysis specifically for your organisation. Find out exactly which questions in the survey are most strongly related to your employees’ engagement with the organisation and their intention to stay. One of the most valuable outputs of Key Driver Analysis is the Performance/Importance Matrix, showing which things we recommend you focus on in order to gain maximum benefit. There is a minimum number of responses required for this analysis – call JRA to discuss.

Question: Are we able to get some recommendations on what to do next to effect change and improve our results, or get a list of companies that could be consulted for post-survey action?

At this point we can recommend some organisations that are Consulting Partners of ours, and can help you come up with action plans and implementation. JRA’s speciality is workplace survey and analysis – we don’t offer follow up consulting services as we believe that would be seen as a conflict of interest. We are definitely available to discuss your survey results and suggest leverage points, but we can’t give you any specifics on what we think you should do next.

Question: Some assistance on how to feed results back to staff and a general ‘where to from here?’ would be good.

We have posted some suggestions about post-survey feedback in our Forum, but this is an area we recognise that we could help more. We will work on a more detailed set of suggestions, but please note as mentioned above that JRA does not provide specific advice on what to do next – our talents lie predominantly diagnostics.

Question: More help with interpreting results would be good.

We try to call and discuss your survey reports with each organisation after the survey closes, but during the Best Places to Work time period occasionally we have to use email and phone messages to try to set up appointments. Our apologies if we didn’t end up talking through your results with you. Please note that we are always happy to take your call!

Question: It would be helpful to receive some comparative information of our survey results with other companies who were recognised as great places to work in NZ, or organisations in our industry.

You are referring to benchmark data, and benchmarking is one of the core features of our survey offering. Our Standard Benchmarking package is priced at $895+gst, and gives you the ability to see how your organisation compares against the benchmark group on a question-by-question basis. You can compare your results against the ‘Best Places to Work’ average, the Top 25% performing organisations in the survey, and the Bottom 25%. To find out more about our Standard Benchmarking package and to see how it would look on your reports, click here. For industry sector benchmarking, please contact JRA to discuss. Finally, you can request how your organisation ranked against other organisations from JRA for free – we made this offer in October. If you missed it, just contact us.

Question: It would be good if the whole Best Places to Work Survey process occurred in the same calendar year – run the survey, notify finalists, have the awards ceremony, publish the issue of unlimited magazine that announces the winners.

We agree! We are working hard on the logistics of making this possible, and hope to review the dates for the 2008 survey.

Question: Regarding survey process, it would have been useful to have been emailed updates on response rates as our survey was running.

Our business model is based around instant, online reporting of survey results – so you can check your response rate yourself, whenever you want. All we require is that you notify us when you have started your survey, so we can send you your report viewing login details.
