Incentivising participation is about encouraging as many people as possible to complete the survey. The more people complete your survey, the more confident you can be that the results you get at the end are representative. In the case of employee surveys, JRA can suggest 3 ways to incentivise participation that have worked for our clients in the past (this is not an exhaustive list!): - Prize draw - at the end of the questionnaire, ask people to either print out the page that confirms their submission (online) or detach an extra page you add to your hard copy version (if applicable), write their name on it, and drop it into a prize draw box in your office. Prizes could include things like bottle of wine, dinner vouchers, movie tickets, etc. People should be assured that entering the prize draw will not affect the confidentiality of their responses.
- Everyone gets a little something - similar to the above, except people should take that confirmation page and trade it in for something like a chocolate fish. This works well even in highly professional environments!
- Everyone enjoys a group activity - once a department/team/the whole organisation achieves a particular level of response, you could offer a morning tea or similar to say thanks. Don't make the target unattainable or too easy - something in the 80-90% response range would be appropriate (less if the group is very large).
Please note that you should always emphasise that your incentives will not affect the confidentiality of their responses - make sure any prize draw entries are kept separate from completed surveys (applies particularly to hard copy questionnaires).
